    United Nations, Nov 25 (CNA) -- US supports the UN Secretary General's efforts on Cyprus and wishes for everybody to be positive and work in ways that the Secretary General has suggested, US Under-Secretary for Political Affairs Marc Grossman said here yesterday.

    Nicosia, Íïv 25 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday: 26/11/02 to 27/11/02 -----------------------

    The weather will be fine light to moderate northweasterly winds. The sea will be slight, generally but up moderate on the east coast. Temperatures will range 14 to 22 inland and from 16 to 23 on the coast.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 28/11/02 to 29/11/02

    On Thursday the weather will be mainly fine but on Friday the weather will be partly cloudy with local rain showers. Temperatures will rise slightly.

    Van der Meer: Advantages to linking solution with accession

    Nicosia, Nov 25 (CNA) -- Head of the European Commission to Cyprus, Adrian Van der Meer, has said there are many advantages to linking the solution of the Cyprus problem with the islands accession to the European Union.

    Speaking after meeting Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides whom he informed on the progress on Cyprus accession process, Van der Meer described this week as very crucial because he said the Commission hopes to finalise negotiations on the outstanding issues.

    Nicosia, Nov 25 (CNA) - Ruling Democratic Rally (DISY) and the Republican Turkish Party (RTP) agreed that the UN Secretary-General's plan for a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus problem can constitute the basis for negotiations.

    RTP leader Mehmet Ali Talat, speaking after meeting DISY leader Nicos Anastasiades in the government-controlled areas in Nicosia, said he has reports that Turkey is encouraging Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash to give a positive reply to Kofi Annan's plan.

    Nicosia, Nov 25 (CNA) - The Synod of the Church of Cyprus maintains its position that it rejects the UN Secretary-General's plan for a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus problem.

    The position was repeated here today after the Synod members were informed by Attorney General Alecos Markides on the provisions of the Annan blueprint.

    Nicosia, Nov 25 (CNA) - The Synod of the Church of Cyprus decided today it would be wise for the primate of the Church, Archbishop Chrysostomos, to maintain his post until conditions in Cyprus improve.

    Speaking after the Synod was briefed on the results of a medical report on the health of Archbishop Chrysostomos, 75, Paphos Bishop Chrysostomos said that ''although the Archbishop is unable to run the Church, the Holy Synod considered it wise he remains in his post and we will not proceed with elections''.

    Markides says Denktash unlikely to reply positively to Annan plan

    Nicosia, Nov 25 (CNA) - Attorney General Alecos Markides has expressed the view that Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash will not accept the UN Secretary General's plan for a Cyprus settlement a few days before the Copenhagen European Council, further restricting the already limited time left for negotiation.

    ''If he does that, it will be a radical development, and then the National Council and the President (Glafcos Clerides) will undertake their responsibilities and handle such an action, however it is not likely that such a thing will take place'', Markides said.
