Angelides handed over a letter of resignation to the President during an hour-long meeting at the Presidential Palace. Speaking to the press afterwards he said that the reasons of his resignation were mentioned in his letter of resignation. He did not elaborate. He said that President Clerides had told him to ''return to his office''. Invited to comment on yesterday's resignation of Justice and Public Order Minister, Nicos Koshis, Angelides said ''I have nothing to say.'' He described the meeting as ''a valuable opportunity for us to compare notes on prospects for a durable, comprehensive settlement in Cyprus, which meets the needs of both parties,'' British Foreign Secretary said. Clerides asked the Police Chief to remain in office until September 29, a day before he was due to retire, to find a replacement. The President will appoint the new Police Chief soon, Papapetrou added.
