Turkish handball team sets venue for game with Cyprus

Nicosia, Aug 28 (CNA) The Turkish Handball Federation has informed the Cyprus Handball Federation of its intention to host the second leg of a handball game, between Latsia Cyprus and Uskudar, in Istanbul (Constantinople) on 14 September.

In its letter to the Cyprus Federation, the Turkish Federation makes no reference to the first leg of the match, which is scheduled to take place on September 8 in Nicosia and is still pending because the Turkish team has said it would enter Cyprus through an illegal port of entry, a move that contradicts international rules and regulations.

Charalambos Lottas, president of the Cyprus Federation, told CNA that in a letter he sent today to the European Handball Federation (EHF), he called on the Turks to clarify whether they intend to arrive on the island through a legal port of entry.

The Turkish team is running the risk of paying a hefty penalty if it does not play by the internationally accepted rules.
