    Agriculture Minister to participate in WSSD

    Nicosia, Aug 19 (CNA) -- Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Costas Themistocleous will represent Cyprus in the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), to be held August 26 to September 4 in Johannesburg.

    The Kyoto Protocol, the need to limit the greenhouse effect gases, as well as the recent extreme climatic phenomena in several European countries, will be the focus of the WSSD, Themistocleous told CNA.

    Famagusta Mayor protests stealing of icons in occupied Cyprus

    Nicosia, Aug 19(CNA)- Famagusta Mayor Kikis Kazamias expressed his strong protest against the stealing of five icons from the Church of Ayios Ioannis, in the Turkish occupied town of Famagusta, on the east coast.

    Kazamias has sent letters of protest to the Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cyprus Zbigniew Wlosowicz, UNESCO, the embassies of the five UN Security Council permanent states, the delegation of the European Commission in Nicosia and the World Council of Churches.
