    Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Nicosia, Aug 12 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday: 13/8/2002 to 14/08/2002 ----------------------

    On Tuesday the weather will be fine and hot. The winds will be moderate sea breezes and the state of sea slight to moderate.

    Maximum temperature: 41 C inland, 36 C over south coastal areas and 33 C over west coastal areas.

    Minimum temperature: Around 26 C inland and over south coastal areas and 24 C over west coastal areas.

    On Wednesday fine with patchy cloud. Winds will be moderate sea breezes and state of sea slight to moderate.

    Maximum temperature: 37 C inland, around 33 C over south coastal areas and 30 C over west coastal areas.

    Minimum temperature: Around 23 C inland and over coastal areas.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 15/8/2002 to 16/8/2002

    Risk of isolate showers over mountains.

    Cyprus asks for support in case of jailed Turkish Cypriots

    Nicosia, Aug 12 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government has appealed for action on the part of international human rights organisations with regard to the illegal imprisonment of two prominent Turkish Cypriot journalists, critical of the self-style regime in the Turkish- occupied part of Cyprus.

    Cyprus' charge d'affaires at the Republic's permanent mission to the UN George Kasoulides has sent protest letters to five such organisations asking for "support and action."

    Cyprus Airways ready for holiday season

    Nicosia, Aug 12 (CNA) -- Cyprus Airways and its sister company Eurocypria operate 65 flights to and from Cyprus, transporting some 10,000 on board their 14 aircraft, Tasos Agelis, Director of Press and Public Affairs for Cyprus Airways has said.

    He said the most popular destination for Cypriots, who traditionally take their holidays in mid August, is the Greek islands with Athens and Salonica coming second best.

    New mobile telecommunications license to be auctioned

    Nicosia, Aug 12 (CNA) -- The one organisation that will secure the new second generation 20-year mobile telecommunications license will be chosen at the end of November through the process of ascending multiple round auction, Communications and Works Minister Averof Neophytou announced here today.

    Speaking at a press conference, he said the prospect of Cyprus' accession to the European Union brings new challenges and tough choices along with fierce competition and the purpose of the Ministry's policy is to create a healthy competitive environment in telecommunications for the benefit of the Cypriot consumer and the Cyprus economy.
