In his message of condolences to Clerides, Annan said: "It was with deep sadness that I learned of the helicopter accident in which Lieutenant General Evangelos Florakis Commander of the National Guard, Brigadier General Stylianos Demenegas, Commander of the Air Force and three other officers lost their lives."
