    Limassol, Apr 20 (CNA) -- Colin McRae's Ford was the first car to start today's second leg of the Cyprus Rally followed by Marcus Gronholm in a Peugeot and Martin Markko in a Ford.

    UN official leaves Cyprus, will be back next month

    Larnaca, Apr 20 (CNA) - The UN Secretary General's Special Adviser on Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto, departed from Cyprus this morning for a trip to London, Brussels and Madrid, before flying to New York on April 30 to brief the UN Security Council on Cyprus talks.

    Slovak President to pay an official visit to Cyprus

    Nicosia, Apr 20 (CNA) - President of the Slovak Republic Rudolf Schuster arrives in Cyprus on April 22 for a two-day official visit, during which he will have official talks with the government of the Republic of Cyprus.

    According to the preliminary programme of the visit, the Slovak President and his delegation will be unofficially welcomed at Larnaca Airport by Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Finance Takis Klerides.

    Sainz in the lead of today's second leg of Cyprus Rally

    Limassol, Apr 20 (CNA) - Spaniard Carlos Sainz in a Ford has entered the top contesters of today's second leg of the Cyprus Rally 2002, by topping the time list during the first and second special stages. Tommi Makinen in a Subaru topped the best time during special stage three.

    Second to Sainz in special stage 1 was Finland's Marcus Gronholm in a Peugeot, while in special stage 2 Colin McRae in a Ford, who won yesterday's first leg, was second.

    FIA contented with Cyprus Rally's high standards

    Limassol, Apr 20 (CNA) -- FIA stewards have expressed their contentment over the high standards of the Cyprus Rally 2002, including safety measures, Clerk of the Course Takis Kyriakides told CNA today, adding that the brand new tracking system used by FIA for the first time here in Cyprus, is working 99 percent.

    Foreign Minister leaves for Valencia

    Nicosia, Apr 20 (CNA) - Cyprus' Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides leaves Sunday for Valencia to attend the 5th Euro-Mediterranean Conference of foreign ministers, a European Union forum to which Cyprus attaches particular importance.

    Cyprus has always backed the Barcelona process, a Foreign Ministry spokesman has told CNA, noting that cooperation between the EU and the Mediterranean countries is one of Cyprus' priorities.
