Cyprus youths call for a bizonal, bicommunal federation

Nicosia, Apr 14 (CNA) -- Hundreds of Greek and Turkish Cypriots attended yesterday at Ledra Palace hotel, situated in the UN - controlled buffer zone in Nicosia, the 2nd Bicommunal Youth Festival organised by left wing AKEL's youth branch, EDON, and the youth organisation of the Turkish Cypriot Republican Turkish Party (RTP).

Addressing the festival EDON' s General Secretary George Loukaides voiced the demand for a just and viable settlement of the Cyprus problem "based on international law, the UN relevant resolutions and High Level agreements" that provide for a bicommunal, bizonal federation with a single and sole sovereignty, international personality and citizenship.

United Democrats call for truce in the Middle East

Nicosia, Apr 14 (CNA) -- Cyprus United Democrats (EDI) movement has called for the immediate withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Palestinian areas and the lift of the restrictions imposed on Palestinian leader Yaser Arafat.

A resolution, adopted unanimously here today by EDI's 2nd Pancyprian Conference, denounced Israeli military operations against the Palestinian authority and non-combatant Palestinians and called on UN Security Council permanent members and international mediators "to contribute to the immediate achievement of truce" adding that this truce should be ībserved by international observers.

EDI also expressed their support to the implementation of UN resolutions, the Oslo agreement and other agreements, that followed, and condemned Palestinians suicide attacks against non-combatant civilians.
