Greek FM says Cyprus to join EU even if talks fruitless

Nicosia, Mar 23 (CNA) - Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou has expressed hope that the current direct talks held between the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus will bear fruit, adding that if they do not, the Republic of Cyprus will still join the EU and will be empowered to pave the way for the Turkish Cypriots to join later, when they are ready.

Europa Nostra - Cyprus - Heritage Award

by Argyro Angelidou Nicosia, Mar 23 (CNA) - Cyprus has once again been honoured by Europa Nostra. An architectural masterpiece, built in 1888 in Lefkonos street within the Venetian walls of Nicosia, has been awarded one of the six Heritage Awards medals "for the exemplary and complex rehabilitation of an historic building complex achieved through the joint efforts of conservation professionals and the wider public.

The Heritage Awards, launched in 1975, give recognition to the exemplary realisation of projects, which make a distinguished contribution to the conservation and enhancement of Europe's built and natural heritage.
