    [01] Cyprus Defence Minister to meet Greek counterpart

    Larnaca, Nov 6 (CNA) -- Cyprus Defence Minister Sokratis Hasikos left today for Athens at the invitation of his newly-appointed Greek counterpart Yiannos Papantoniou, with whom he will discuss tomorrow the Cyprus - Greece joint defence pact, issues relating to the European Army and military equipment programmes of the Cyprus Republic.

    Speaking before his departure, Hasikos said certain military equipment programmes were still pending, adding he would discuss with Papantoniou issues relating to their implementation. CNA/MAN/RM/GP/2001

    [02] Agriculture Minister to participate in world climate change meeting

    Larnaca, Nov 6 (CNA) -- Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Minister Costas Themistocleous left today for Morocco to represent Cyprus in the World Congress on Climate Change, which aims at reaching an agreement on specific measures to help governments around the world ratify the 1997 Kyoto Protocol and ensure its full implementation.

    Speaking to CNA on his departure, the minister said in Morocco there would be another effort to achieve an agreement on the implementation of the Kyoto protocol and noted the responsibility of all, especially of the US to contribute positively to the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol.| CNA/MAN/KS/RM/GP/2001

    [03] Commerce Minister: Extra financial aid to boost tourism industry

    Nicosia, Nov 6 (CNA) -- The Cabinet approved yesterday a four-million-pound aid (one Cyprus pound trades at about 1,6 dollars), in order to boost tourism, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Nicos Rolandis has said, adding that the money will be used for advertising Cyprus abroad as a tourist destination.

    Speaking after the cabinet meeting, Rolandis said the four-million- pound aid brings the total government aid to 7,2 million pounds. He said the decision was taken in order to deal with the crisis in the tourism industry, following the terrorist attacks in the US on 11 September 2001.| CNA/RM/GP/2001
