    Cyprus - Britain - Environmental management strategy

    Nicosia, Oct 31 (CNA) -- Britain has applied formally to the Council of Europe to extend the Berne Convention on the protection of wild life and habitat, British High Commissioner to Cyprus Lyn Parker said today, adding that British and Cypriot environmental experts will meet next week to discuss an environmental management strategy for the Salt Lake site near the British Base of Akrotiri, in the southern coastal town of Limassol.

    Parker met today with Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides with whom he discussed among other issues Kasoulides' visit to London next week where he is due to meet with British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw.| CNA/AAR/RM/2001

    Cyprus - CoE Rapporteur on Human Rights - Visit

    Nicosia, Oct 31 (CNA) -- Rapporteur on "Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of Greek Cypriots and Maronites in the northern part of Cyprus", of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Dick Marty, arrives in Cyprus today for a five - day visit.

    According to an official press release, during his stay on the island Marty will be received by Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides and hold separate meetings with Attorney General Alecos Markides, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, and President of the House Standing Committee on Refugees, Enclaved, Missing and Adversely Affected Persons Aristophanes Georgiou.| CNA/AAR/RM/2001
