    [01] Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Nicosia, Ïct 01 (CNA) - The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday: 02/10/2001 to 3/10/2001

    Fine with local clouds. Winds will be northwesterly to southwesterly light to moderate and the state of sea slight. Maximum temperature: 31C inland and around 30C over coastal areas. Minimum temperature: 18C inland and around 19C over coastal areas.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 04/10/2001 to 05/10/2001

    On Thursday will be partly cloudy but on Friday cloudy at times with probability of local showers or thunderstorms. No significant change in temperature is expected.

    Sea Temperature: 26C

    [02] President Clerides - Greek Defence Minister

    Nicosia, Oct 1 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides had a half hour long meeting here today with Greek National Defence Minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos, representing Greece at today's celebrations marking 41 years since the Republic's independence.

    No statements were made after the meeting.

    Present at the meeting were Cyprus Defence Minister Socratis Hasikos, Under- Secretary to the President Pantelis Kouros, and Greek Ambassador in Nicosia Christos Panagopoulos.

    Earlier this morning Tsohatzopoulos met with the Primate of the Church of Cyprus, Archbishop Chrysostomos.

    The Greek minister leaves later this afternoon. Prior to his departure Tsohatzopoulos and Hasikos will give a joint press conference.

    This morning President Clerides also received Russian Deputy Defence Minister M. Dmitriev for about 30 minutes. There were no statements afterwards. CNA/MM/RM/2001
