    [01] President Clerides - Spokesman

Nicosia, Sep 27 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides believes that the international coalition being formed in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks against the US will have to solve disputes and give "some priority" to the solution of the Cyprus question and to differences between Greece and Turkey.

Commenting on yesterday's UN Security Council statement on the Cyprus peace effort, Clerides said it "was not the end of the story".

    [02] Spokesman - Terrorism - Legislation

Nicosia, Sep 27 (CNA) -- Terrorism is an issue which concerns Greek and Turkish Cypriots alike, government spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today, adding that this is not a matter for confrontation between the island's two communities.

"Our position is crystal clear: we have information which we are assessing, but unless we obtain absolute proof and full confirmation of any data, we are not going into the game of condemnation of the Turkish Cypriot side because terrorism is not an issue for confrontation," Papapetrou said, adding that any such eventuality might be interpreted by a third party as an attempt to exploit the current situation and score points in the political arena, in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks against the US.

[03] House President - PACE - Cyprus Problem

Larnaca, Sep 27 (CNA) -- House President Demetris Christofias has said the UN Security Council should have already condemned Turkey and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash for not accepting the Secretary General's invitation for the resumption of peace talks on Cyprus, but added that considering the new world order after the terrorist attacks in the US, one should not expect that the Council would act in this direction or take any measures against Turkey or Denktash.

Speaking to the press after his arrival from Strasbourg, where he addressed the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly (PACE), he said that his three-day official visit was a "good opportunity" to hold talks on the Cyprus problem and ask from the organisation to use its influence on Turkey so as Ankara changes its stance on Cyprus. [04] President Clerides - New Pakistani High Commissioner

Nicosia, Sep 27 (CNA) -- Pakistan is committed to further enhancing bilateral cooperation with Cyprus, new High Commissioner of Pakistan to Cyprus Khalid M. Mir has said, presenting his credentials to President Glafcos Clerides, adding that the international community can achieve peace for the coming generations only through understanding and cooperation.

Later today at a meeting with House President Demetris Christofias, the High Commissioner said his country fully backs UN decisions on Cyprus. CNA/AAR/MM/2001
