    [03] Cyprus - EU - Vassiliou - Maurer

    Nicosia, Sep 19 (CNA) -- The European Union is still convinced that a solution to the Cyprus problem can be achieved, Leopold Maurer, chief EU negotiator for the accession of Cyprus said here today, adding that the Cyprus problem will go on being on the EU agenda.

    Cyprus' chief negotiatior with the EU George Vassiliou said that Brussels will fund bicommunal programmes in Cyprus aiming at facilitating a political settlement, pointing out that Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash blocks such bicommunal projects. CNA/AAR/RM/MM/2001

    [04] Cyprus - Commerce - Industry

    Nicosia, Sep 19 (CNA) -- Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos Rolandis said today that Cyprus' tourism and industry have not been affected by the global situation, following the terrorist attacks in the US.

    According to an official press release, Rolandis, speaking after separate meetings with representatives of the tourist industry, said that the government has set up two special committees to monitor developments which relate to Cyprus, pointing out that the island is considered to be "a safe tourist destination."
