    [03] Cyprus - Malta - New High Commissioner

    Nicosia, Sept 13 (CNA) -- The Cyprus problem and its latest developments and issues of mutual concern were discussed today during a private meeting held between President of Malta Guido de Marco and new Cyprus High Commissioner to Malta Alexandros Zenon.

    According to an official press release, Zenon who is based in Rome, today presented his credentials to the Maltese President. Later on, they held a private meeting during which they discussed issues relating to the two countries' accession course into the EU, the EuroMed cooperation and Commonwealth issues.

    Limassol, Sep 13 (CNA)-- A two-day seminar on the "Transition from Analog to Digital" system, organised by the European Audiovisual Organization "Eureka" in cooperation with Cyprus Press and Information Office began here today, with the participation of Cypriot and foreign experts in the field of broadcasting.

    In his statement at the Seminar, read by Expert of Audiovisual "Eureka" Diana Cioponea, Director of "Eureka" Audiovisual Organization Walter Larouge, said that with the arrival of satellite and cable broadcasting, the broadcasting landscape "begun to change and has now become a global issue".     [05] Cyprus - Conference - Ombudsmanship

    Nicosia, Sep 13 (CNA)-- A two-day Conference on "Ombudsmanship, Prospects and Challenges for the 21st Century", organised by the Cyprus Commissioner for Administration, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Ombudsmanship in Cyprus, began here today with the participation of 23 delegates from various countries and the EU, who observed a minute's silence in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks, which took place in the USA.

    In his address at the Conference Cyprus Minister for Justice and Public Order Nicos Koshis, welcomed the delegates on behalf of Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides and thanked them for their willingness to "share their knowledge and concerns on the future of effective enjoyment of citizen's rights in the common European family".     [06] Cyprus - USA - Attacks - Day of mourning

    Nicosia, Sep 13 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government has adopted a decision taken by the EU to declare the 14th of September as a Day of mourning for the victims of the terrorist attacks that took place in the USA.

    According to an official press release, tomorrow people in Europe and Cyprus will observe a minute's silence in the memory of those killed during the attacks. Air raid sirens will wail at midday tomorrow whereas flags will be flying half mast all over Cyprus. CNA/GS/AAR/RM/2001

    [07] Cyprus Foreign Minister - USA

    By Maria Myles Washington, Sep 13 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, stranded in New York as a result of the terrorist attacks on Tuesday against the US, is having some contacts during his stay in the country.

    Kasoulides told CNA from New York that today he is due to have a meeting with the recently appointed Undersecretary for Peacekeeping Operations of the UN Jean Marie Guehenno to discuss matters relating to UNFICYP. CNA/MM/RM/2001

    2035:CYPPRESS: 08 Cyprus - Mediterranean Games - Gold Metal Nicosia, Sep 13 (CNA) -- Cyprus won today its first gold medal in the Mediterranean Games taking place in Tunis, when Anninos Markoullides finished first in the 200-metre final, clocking a time of 20.60.

    Prodromos Katsantonis, the second Cypriot athlete who competed in the race finished fifth. CNA/GS/RÌ/2001
