    [02] Cyprus - Rescue - Ship

    Nicosia, Sep 7 (CNA) -- Cyprus maritime authorities rescued this morning a seven-member crew of a cargo ship, which had sent a mayday signal as it was sailing west of Paphos, on the western coast.

    The vessel, Cambodian-flagged "LNN", sunk at about 12 nautical miles off the western coast but none of the crew was injured. The incident happened in the early hours today. CNA/MM/RÌ/2001

    [03] Cyprus - International Conference - Ombudsmanship

    Nicosia, Sep 07 (CNA)-- Cyprus will host between 13 - 14 September, an international conference on "Ombudsmanship: Prospects and Challenges for the 21st Century" organized by the Cyprus Commissioner for Administration (Ombudsman), on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of this Institution in Cyprus.

    A press release issued by the Ombudsman's office states that the conference would be attended by some 30 delegates from EU and other countries and aims at the active scientific contribution of Cyprus to the evolution of this Institution internationally and the vocational training of Cyprus Ombudsman's office personnel and the other countries' Ombudsman servants who will attend the conference.     [04] UN - Turkish Cypriot leader - Peace talks

    Nicosia, Sep 7 (CNA) -- Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash has informed the UN that he is unable to accept an invitation by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan for talks, a UN spokesman said in New York today, adding that the UN regard this development "regrettable."

    The spokesman expressed hope this was not the last word from Denktash and noted there is a lot of work to be done. CNA/MM/RM/2001
