    Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Nicosia, Aug 16 (CNA) - The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Friday and Saturday: 17/8/2001 to 18/8/2001

    On Friday the weather will be mainly fine with some patchy cloud which are expected to increase on Saturday afternoon giving isolated showers. The wind will be light variable during nights and mornings and moderate to strong southwest to west in the afternoon. The sea will be slight to moderate. The maximum temperature will range between 35-36C inland and 30- 32C on the coast. The minimum will range between 21-23C.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 19/8/2001 to 20/8/2001

    Local cloud may give isolated showers early afternoon. No significant change in temperature.

    Sea Temperature: 26C

    Cyprus - Light Aircraft - Flights

    Nicosia, Aug 16 (CNA) -- Cyprus Department of Civil Aviation has banned flights of homebuilt microlight and ultralight aircraft as well as the use of fields, roads and beaches as landing and take-off strips, without prior permission, saying they could endanger life and public property and pose danger to the rest of air traffic.

    In an official press release issued today, the Department of Civil Aviation said that flights of homebuilt microlight and ultralight aircraft "are strictly prohibited, without previous consultation with the Department".

    [04] Morphou - Petition - Protest

    Nicosia, Aug 16 (CNA) -- The continuing Turkish occupation of Cyprus including the Morphou area, on the north west, "is totally unacceptable and a disgrace to humanity", Morphou Municipal Council and other town organisations stress in a petition they handed today to the representatives of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council here, reiterating their determination to return home.

    Morphou Municipal Council met with Cyprus Acting President and House President Demetris Christofias whom they asked to convey the petition, through the House of Representatives, to all foreign parliaments. CNA/MF/NMA/RM/MM/2001
