[02] Government - Middle East - Statement
Nicosia, Aug 10 (CNA) -- The government of the Republic of Cyprus condemned
today yesterday's attack in Jerusalem, "which resulted in the death of many
innocent civilians, especially children."
The government renewed its appeal to both sides in the Middle East conflict
to refrain from the use of armed force and return to the negotiating table.

[04] Central Bank - Rates - Euro
Nicosia, Aug 10 (CNA) -- The Central Bank of Cyprus announced today a 0,50
per cent reduction in the Lombard interest rate, bringing it down to 6,50
per cent, and an increase in the margin of fluctuation of the Cyprus pound
against the euro from 2,25 per cent to 15 per cent.
Today's decision will come into effect on Monday and according to Central
Bank Governor Afxentis Afxentiou this move is meant to curtail an
increasing trend for loans in foreign currency, especially in euro, and to
avert possibly economic depression.

[05] Israeli Ambassador - DISY leader
Nicosia, Aug 10 (CNA) -- Israel, through its Ambassador here Mikael Eligal,
has assured that its close ties with Turkey are not targetting any third
country, especially Cyprus, adding that Israel values its links, economic
and political, with Nicosia.
Eligal has also assured that his country has no intention of recognizing
the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime in Turkish occupied Cyprus and said it
backs the positions of the government of the Republic on the basis of UN
resolutions.
