[01] CoE Secretary General - Loizidou case - Turkey
by Athena Arsalidou Strasbourg, Jun 27 (CNA) -- The judgment of the
European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in a case of human rights violations
in Cyprus is not political but legal and there is no way a member state of
the Council of Europe can avoid execution of the judgments of the Court,
Council Secretary General Walter Schwimmer stressed here today.
Speaking at a press conference, Schwimmer said the execution of the
judgment should not wait for a settlement of the Cyprus question and
described a third interim resolution on the case adopted by the Committee
of Ministers, as "a step to put pressure on a member country to comply with
