US Congress - Europe Subcommittee - Cyprus

Washington, Jun 14 (CNA) - The need for a settlement in Cyprus and the importance of the Republic's accession to the European Union were among issues examined yesterday during a discussion in the US Congress Subcommittee on Europe on US policy in the Eastern Mediterranean, during which the effect of Turkey's prospect of joining the EU as well as relations between Greece and Turkey were also examined.

Two Congresspersons, Carolyn Maloney and Mike Bilirakis, handed the Subcommittee their testimony in writing, underlining that resolving the issues separating Greece, Turkey and Cyprus would positively affect the future of NATO and the EU and have implications on stability in the Middle East, which also serves US interests.
