    [01] Kenyan President - Official welcoming

    Nicosia, Jun 7 (CNA) - Kenyan President Daniel Arap Moi, who arrived in Cyprus yesterday for a four-day official visit, was officially welcomed by President Glafcos Clerides this morning at the Presidential Palace in the capital Nicosia.

    The Cyprus Police band played the national anthems of the two countries. The two Presidents inspected a Guard of Honour. CNA/MM/RG/GP/2001

    [02] PSEKA - Conference

    Washington, Jun 7 (CNA) - US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, Marc Grossman, said that Cyprus' accession to the European Union is a significant development and can prove a great incentive to solve the Cyprus problem.

    In a videotaped address to the 12th annual conference of the International Coordinating Commitee - Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA) being held in Washington, Grossman also said Turkey's EU accession course could spur the necessary changes in the country regarding human rights and democracy.     [04] Cyprus and Kenyan Presidents - Official talks

    Nicosia, Jun 7 (CNA) - The Presidents of Cyprus and Kenya, Glafcos Clerides and Daniel Arap Moi, signed here today a protocol on bilateral cooperation in various fields, including health, education, commerce, tourism and forests.

    Speaking after official talks at the Presidential Palace, President Clerides said they reviewed the relations between their two countries, noting that "they are very good, but we still find ways to make them even better", while Arap Moi described the meeting as "very productive", noting also that the two communities in Cyprus should try to resolve the Cyprus problem.     [05] Kenyan Foreign Minister - Cyprus problem

    Nicosia, Jun 7 (CNA) - Kenya's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Bonaya Godana assured today that his country supports the unity, independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus and non- interference in its internal affairs.

    Godana told CNA that the Presidents of Cyprus and Kenya, Glafcos Clerides and Daniel Arap Moi, discussed the Cyprus problem "at length" during official talks in Nicosia today, and noted that "we expressed hope" that the talks between the two communities "will resume in earnest" and that relevant resolutions would be fully implemented.     [06] Minister of Finance - Balkan Chambers

    Nicosia, Jun 7 (CNA) - Cyprus' Minister of Finance, Takis Klerides, addressing the General Assembly of the Association of the Balkan Chambers (ABC) today in Nicosia, said, "the government advocates a frontier-free unified economy, in which both Greek and Turkish Cypriots will benefit from economic development".

    Clerides expressed the hope that "sooner rather than later Turkey will withdraw its occupatrion troops from Cyprus, realising that a unified economy will be to the benefit of the Turkish Cypriots, more than anyone else", and noted that "this will also help Turkey's EU aspirations".
