    Íicosia, Feb 22 (CNA) - The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Friday and Saturday: 23/2/2001 to 24/2/2001

    Local showers are expected for Friday and Saturday, with Southwesterly fresh winds on Friday becoming moderate on Saturday.

    On Friday maximum temperatures between 14C and 16C. Minimum temperatures between 2C and 5C.

    On Saturday maximum temperatures around 18C and minimum temperatures between 4C and 7C.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 25/2/2001 to 26/2/2001

    Mainly fine. Maximum temperatures expected to rise significantly.

    [02] Abducted Greek Cypriot - Mass rally

    Nicosia, Feb 22 (CNA) -- Political parties will rally together tomorrow with the family of a Greek Cypriot, illegally detained by the Turkish occupation regime for more than two months, in a mass protest to demand his immediate release.

    Joining the effort for his release, House President Spyros Kyprianou said he would send letters to the ambassadors of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council on the matter.

    [04] European Socialists - Cyprus

    Nicosia, Feb 22 (CNA) – European Parliament Socialist Group leader, Enrique Baron Crespo, reiterated here today the Group's solidarity and support -as well as that of the European Parliament- for Cyprus' accession to the European Union and for a peaceful solution to the Cyprus problem, within the UN framework.

    Speaking after a meeting with Cyprus Social Democrats Movement's President Vassos Lysarides, Crespo, who is heading a delegation of the Socialist Group, said the Group is following very closely the process of Cyprus' accession negotiations with the EU, adding "Cyprus is one of the most developed and up to day applicant countries."

    Nicosia, Feb 22 (CNA) -- Matters relating to Cyprus' financial services sector, the economy as well as the country's accession course to the European Union and the Cyprus question are at the core of discussion Lord Mayor of London David Howard.

    He congratulated the Cyprus Stock Exchange on the advanced technology it is using and referring to Cyprus' accession course, he said it will move ahead irrespective of a political settlement.
