[02] International Union of Socialist Youth - Resolutions

Larnaca, Dec 3 (CNA) -- Representatives of socialist youth from 90 countries meeting here have said the international community's ability to establish lasting peace and justice is put to the test in Cyprus, just like in the Middle East, and have called for a settlement on the island based on UN principles, decisions and resolutions.

A resolution on Cyprus adopted at the end of a three-day meeting of some 150 members of 125 youth organisations participating in the World Council of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), considers the accession of the Republic to the European Union will benefit all citizens and welcomes the effort of the younger generation of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots to communicate.

The meeting today adopted a number of other resolutions, including one put forward by the Human Rights working group, recommending that IUSY takes clear solidarity positions with suppressed people in conflict areas suffering from violations of human rights, it supports the establishment of international tribunals against criminals violating human rights and puts an end to work and sexual exploitation of children.
