President Clerides - CyServ 2000 - Services sector

Nicosia, Oct 26 (CNA) - The sector of professional services in Cyprus is wide and its possibilities are virtually inexhaustible, particularly in view of the island's expected accession to the European Union (EU), President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides has said.

The President was opening the Exhibition "CyServ 2000", specialising in the services sector, which is co-organised by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and the Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEV), one of the two main employers' unions of Cyprus. CNA/GG/RG/2000

[05] UN envoy - Political party leaders

Nicosia, Oct 26 (CNA) - The UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto, reassured today that the basis of the Cyprus talks had not changed, adding that relevant UN Security Council resolutions talk about certain principles, but do not spell out in detail how the matters must be solved as part of a comprehensive settlement.

Speaking after meetings with Cypriot political party leaders, de Soto said innovations must be made in order to solve certain issues, on which the resolutions are unclear. CNA/RG/GP/2000
