[02] Central Bank Governor - Financial liberalisation - Seminar
Nicosia, Oct 18 (CNA) - The liberalisation of the Cyprus financial system
is well under way while the Central Bank is preparing for the lifting of
restrictions on the movement of capital, Central Bank Governor Afxentis
Afxentiou has said.
He was addressing the two-day seminar "Financial Liberalisation in the Face
of European Union (EU) Accession", which started today in Nicosia with the
participation of EU officials.

[03] Turkish Cypriots - General strike - Demonstration
Nicosia Oct 18 (CNA) - Some 15.000 people demonstrated against Turkish
Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash in the Turkish-occupied areas of the Republic,
calling for his resignation and chanting: "This is our country and we will
rule it".
Meanwhile, Turkish Cypriot women marched to the Nicosia check point and
delivered a petition to the UN Peace-keeping force (UNFICYP), denouncing
the violence and poverty experienced by Turkish Cypriots by Rauf Denktash's
regime. They asked that the petition be conveyed to UN Secretary-General
Kofi Annan.

[04] Central Bank Governor - Milosevic
Nicosia, Oct 18 (CNA) - Cyprus Central Bank Governor Afxentis Afxentiou
described today as "fairy tales" reports that former President of
Yugoslavia Slobodan Milosevic had accounts in local banks.
Anyone who possesses such evidence should present it to the Central Bank
for investigation, Afxentiou said, pointing out that it was not the first
time such reports had appeared.
