    [01] Russian FM - Cyprus - Official visit

    Nicosia, Oct 6 (CNA) - Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, heading an eleven- member delegation, will pay a three-day official visit to Cyprus next week during which he will sign an agreement endorsing the validity of previous agreements the Republic of Cyprus had signed with the former Soviet Union.

    Ivanov, who arrives on Monday lunchtime, will be received by President Glafcos Clerides on Wednesday morning and will have official talks with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides on Tuesday afternoon.

    [02] Cyprus - Imports/Exports - January-July 2000

    Nicosia, Oct 6 (CNA)-- Cyprus' imports and exports increased in the first seven months of 2000 compared to the January-July 1999 period.

    According to official statistics released here today imports (covering imports from home consumption and imports placed into bonded warehouses) totalled 1.3 million Cyprus pounds compared to 1.1 m. pounds in January- July 1999. (One Cyprus pound = 1.5 US dollars)

    European Parliament report - Loizidou case - Turkey

    Nicosia, Oct 6 (CNA) - For the first time a European Parliament report on Cyprus' accession course chastises Turkey for refusing to comply with a European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling, relating to human rights violations on the island with regard to the Titina Loizidou case.

    Loizidou's lawyer Achilleas Demetriades has told CNA that the next step should be the commencement of a procedure to expel Turkey from the Council of Europe.

    [04] Cyprus - Tourist statistics - Increase

    Nicosia, Oct 6 (CNA) - The number of tourists in Cyprus in the first eight months of the year has risen by more than ten per cent, compared to last year's figures, bringing to 1.824.419 the number of tourists who visited the island from January to August 2000. Last year tourist arrivals had reached 1.651.676 and prospects for winter tourism are "very encouraging", according to an official announcement by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.

    [05] Cyprus - Yugoslavia

    Nicosia, Oct 6 (CNA) - Cyprus regards Vojislav Kostunica as the legal President of Yugoslavia and will seek to convey this to him, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou announced here today.

    The Cyprus government also announced that, until legality is restored in Yugoslavia, the Central Bank of Cyprus has taken all necessary measures to protect capital belonging to the state of Yugoslavia and its people, stressing this is a purely precautionary step.

    [06] Solar Energy - Award

    Nicosia, Oct 6 (CNA) - A department of the Cyprus Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism has been awarded for its programmes to use solar energy.

    The award, "Projects around the world", given during the International Fair Expo 2000, in Hannover, was a special medal.
