CNA MA/GP/20001755:CYPPRESS:04[04] Rapporteur - Council of Europe - Interviewby Riana Magidou Limassol, Oct 3 (CNA)-- The division of Cyprus is the result of the 1974 invasion and occupation of 37% of the island by Turkish troops, Andras Barsony, rapporteur on the situation in Cyprus in the Council of Europe has said, adding that the UN led proximity talks is the way to solve the Cyprus question.In an interview with CNA, Barsony said that in his view the UN Secretary- General's opening statement at the beginning of the fourth round of proximity talks in New York in September, suggests that "whaterver kind of agreement to solve the problem is reached, it will be achieved only if there is consensus between the two parties".
