    [02] HMS Invincible - Cyprus - Akrotiri Base

    Nicosia, Sep 28(CNA)-- The British Navy aircraft carrier CIS Invincible, that recently took part in the dramatic rescue of passengers from the Greek ferry Semina off the island of Paros, has anchored off Akrotiri Base, in the south of Cyprus, today for a brief stop to take on supplies and mail.

    HMS Invincible, built in 1980, is operating in the Mediterranean in order to contribute to exercise programmes with Allies and share the burden of commitments in the region.

    [04] Interior Minister - Illegal immigrants

    Nicosia, Sep 28 (CNA) -- Cyprus Interior Minister Christodoulos Christodoulou has expressed hopes that the issue of some 275 illegal immigrants that arrived on the island's shores earlier this month and are on board a ship in Limassol, will be resolved.

    Christodoulou also said a ship carrying around 35 other persons, located this morning off the coast of Cyprus, has not entered the Republic's territorial waters, adding the vessel will not be allowed to enter a port on the island.

    [05] President Clerides - Cyprus peace effort - Statements

    Larnaca, Sep 28 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides has underlined he is participating in the UN effort to reach a settlement on the island in all good will and said the aim is to find a solution based on UN resolutions providing for a bizonal, bicommunal federation, that will be in line with international law, human rights conventions and the European Union acquis communautaire.

    Speaking on his return to Cyprus from New York, where he participated in two weeks of UN-led proximity talks, President Clerides also said "a very serious effort is underway" to help the two communities move towards a settlement and noted it is his political duty to work to this end.
