[02] Cyprus Foreign Minister - Peace talks - Strovilia
Nicosia, Aug 18 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government has called for a change of
procedure so that meaningful negotiations to settle the problem on the
island take place and said the political leaders will decide on the stance
to be followed by the Greek Cypriot side after assessing the course of the
UN-led proximity talks scheduled to begin in New York on September 12.
Talking to reporters today, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides said the
situation created by the Turkish occupation forces in Stovilia, where they
illegally set up a checkpoint last month, affects the climate in which the
new peace effort is taking place.
