    [02] President Clerides - Arrival

    Nicosia, Jul 13 (CNA) - Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides said today the thoughts submitted by the UN to the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides during the first phase of the the third round of proximity talks in Geneva, aimed at recording their reactions on their return to the Swiss town for the resumption of talks on July 24.

    Speaking on arrival at Larnaca airport, the President also said he had already called a meeting for July 18 of the National Council, the advisory body to the President on the Cyprus problem, to brief them of the proceedings.

    [04] House President - Letter - "Arrests"

    Nicosia, Jul 13 -- House President Spyros Kyprianou sent today a letter to the President of the European Parliament Nicole Fontaine, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Lord Russell Johnston and the Secretary General of the International Federation of Journalistas Aidan White protesting against the "arrests" of six Turkish Cypriots by the illegal regime in the Turkish-occupied area of Cyprus.

    Kyprianou notes that the House of Representatives "condemns this abhorent act of the illegal regime" and underlines that "this effort aimed to muzzle voices which could be heard in favour of rapprochement between Greek and Turkish Cypriots, the need for a peaceful solution to the Cyprus problem and the reunification of our country".     [05] International Federation of Journalists - Avrupa

    Nicosia, Jul 13 (CNA) -- An International Federation of Journalists official, responsible for human rights, arrives here tomorrow, responding to a plea by the Cyprus Union of Journalists, to investigate the case of the "arrest" of Turkish Cypriot journalists by the Turkish occupation regime in the northern part of the island.

    Cyprus Union of Journalists President Andreas Kannaouros, told CNA, Sarah de Jung will seek to visit "Avrupa's" chief editor Sener Levent and the other journalists detained in the Turkish-occupied areas, as well as the Turkish Cypriot newspaper's offices.
