    [01] Cyprus - Fires - Greek aircraft

    Nicosia, Jun 15 (CNA) -- Greek fire-fighters are expected on the island here Thursday morning to help battle the fires which are burning in Larnaca and Limassol districts, endangering residential areas and causing several people to be admitted to hospital for respiratory problems.

    Police announced this morning that fires are still blazing in the teh villages of Vavla, Vavatsinia, Ora, Layia, Parsata, Vasa Kelakiou, Pareklisia and Asgata.

    [02] UN Security Council - UNFICYP

    Nicosia, Jun 15 (CNA) - The Security Council has extended the UN peace- keeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) mandate for another six months, after the government of the Republic gave its consent following a diplomatic battle not to include an addendum to the Secretary-General's report with a Turkish Cypriot demand for separate consultations with UNFICYP.

    After the approval of resolution 1303, Council President French permanent representative Jean-David Levitte said its members wished every success for the proximity talks on the Cyprus issue, scheduled to begin in Geneva on July 5.

    President - House Committee - Fires

    Nicosia, Jun 15 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides will fly over the areas where fires are still raging in the Larnaca district and will hold an extraordinary meeting with ministers and other high-ranking officials.

    The House Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment committee has postponed a session scheduled for today and its members were due to visit the destroyed area.

    [04] Labour MP - Cyprus - Loizidou case

    Nicosia, Jun 15 (CNA) - Many MPs from Britain and other Council of Europe (CoE) member states will seek to have Turkey expelled if it continues to flout the European Court of Human Rights ruling in the case of Greek Cypriot Titina Loizidou, a British MP has said.

    In an interview with the London Greek Radio (LGR) today Labour MP Tom Cox criticised Ankara for deliberate delays in the implementation of the Court ruling and said that all CoE member states, apart from Turkey, believe the judgement must be honoured.
