    Cyprus - al-Assad's funeral

    Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) -- Justice and Public Order Minister Nicos Koshis will represent the Cyprus government at today's funeral of Syrian President Hafez al- Assad.

    The Cypriot minister flew to Damascus yesterday. Also in Syria are Vassos Lyssarides, President of the Social Democrats Movement, and lawyer Efstathios Efstathiou, President of the Cyprus-Syria Friendship Association.

    Cyprus - Syria - Foreign Minister

    Larnaca, Jun 13 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides has conveyed a message to Syria's designated new leader, Bashar al-Assad, expressing the government's assurance that Cyprus will continue its close relations with Syria.

    Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides said today that "Cyprus has lost a close and faithful friend and leader of a neighbouring country, who led his country to progress to the benefit of his people".

    Cyprus - Bulgaria - Agreement

    Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) -- Cyprus will give in the coming days to the Bulgarian authorities its position on a draft agreement for the avoidance of double taxation between the two countries.

    Bulgaria has proposed to Cyprus a new agreement on double taxation which would replace the existing one.

    [04] Foreign Minister - Cyprus - UN - Resolution

    Larnaca, Jun 13 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides warned the UN Secretariat to be "very careful" in its treatment of the Cyprus problem and at the same time criticised the UN for its "clumsy" handling regarding the addendum to the resolution for renewal of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

    He also described as "exaggeration" media reports that there is an effort by the UN to secure recognition of the illegal regime in the Turkish- occupied part of Cyprus.

    [05] Cyprus Foreign Minister - Luxembourg visit

    Larnaca, Jun 13 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides left for Luxembourg today to attend the Intergovernmental Conference of the Foreign Ministers of the European Union (EU) with Cyprus.

    Kasoulides will also attend a dinner tomorrow where foreign ministers of EU candidate states were invited to hold a political dialogue with the EU. He will also be received by Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Jean-Claude Juncker.

    [06] Spokesman - Missing - Denktash

    Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) - The Cyprus government has rejected allegations by the Turkish Cypriot leader that it is trying to score political points in the humanitarian issue of missing persons.

    Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash has found himself in a difficult situation because he has not honoured his signature to a UN-brokered agreement with President Glafcos Clerides to locate and open graves on both sides of the divide and return any remains found to the families concerned.
