    [01] Palestinian Minister - Official visit

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) -- Palestinian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nabeel Shaath will pay a two-day official visit to Cyprus later this month during which he will have meetings with government officials.

    Shaath will be visiting Cyprus from June 21 to 22. He is expected to meet Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, Finance Minister Takis Klerides, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos Rolandis and Minister of Health Frixos Savvides.

    [02] Political parties - Rapprochement

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) -- Political parties from both sides of the divide decided here Tuesday to meet again later this month and promote rapprochement between the two sides.

    Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot party leaders or representatives met at the Ledra Palace hotel in the UN-controlled buffer zone, dividing the Turkish occupied northern third of the island from the government controlled areas.

    [03] IPCRI Meeting - Nicosia

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) -- Participants to an Israeli-Palestinian meeting on the future of Jerusalem, hosted by the government of Cyprus last week, agreed to hold separate meetings in Jerusalem and reconvene in Cyprus at the end of the month for another weekend of intensive talks.

    A statement, issued at the end of their meeting and released today, said from June 1-4 a delegation of 14 Israelis and Palestinians convened a meeting for discrete discussions on the question of the future of Jerusalem in the Israeli- Palestinian peace process. The delegations were composed of both officials and non-officials from both sides.

    [06] President Clerides - Proximity talks

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides said today the government has no information that a third round of UN-led proximity talks between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides, due to begin in early July, will be postponed.

    Replying to press questions, shortly after receiving new National Guard Commander Lieutenant General Evangelos Florakis, President Clerides said the Greek Cypriot side has been informed to be ready for negotiations in July.

    [07] President - Japanese Ambassador - Credentials

    Nicosia, June 6 (CNA) -- Japan will continue to support the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and others to bring about a peaceful solution to the Cyprus question, its Ambassador has said, pointing out that since 1964 his country is the second largest financial contributor to the maintenance of the UN Peace Keeping Force in Cyprus.

    Ambassador S. Motoi Ohkubo made these comments during the presentation of his credentials to the President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides, who said that Cyprus highly appreciates and values the role and stature of Japan in the international scene, particularly in the promotion of peace and justice and respect for international law.

    [08] President - Polish Ambassador - Credentials

    Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) -- "Poland supports the efforts of the UN Secretary- General, the European Union and international society for a settlement based on the Republic of Cyprus' sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity", said the country's new Ambassador to Cyprus, Tomasz Lis.

    Presenting his credentials today to President Glafcos Clerides, Lis further said Poland "always used to advocate implementation of all the relevant Security Council and General Assembly resolutions on the question of Cyprus".

    Tehran, Jun 6 (CNA) -- Iran believes that Cyprus should be included in the dialogue among ancient civilizations between Greece, Italy, Iran and Egypt.

    Iran's position was outlined today by Culture Minister Dr. Ataollah Mohajerani after meeting a Cyprus News Agency (CNA) delegation, on an official visit to Iran at the invitation of the Islamic Republic Arab News Agency (IRNA).

    [10] George Vassiliou - Health

    London, Jun 6 (CNA) -- Former President of the Republic, George Vassiliou, who underwent an operation to remove a benign brain tumour last month, returns to Cyprus on Thursday.

    Vassiliou, President of the United Democrats and head of Cyprus' European Union Negotiating Team, said that Dr. Allan Crockard of the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, who had performed the surgery, is very satisfied with his recuperation, noting it was faster than expected.
