[01] Clerides - De Soto - Statements
By Maria Myles
Geneva, Feb 4 (CNA) - Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides has said he
could not express optimism that a settlement could be reached in Cyprus
after the third round of UN-led talks, because during the proximity talks
underway in Geneva one side does not know what the other is discussing.
Speaking after his meeting today with the UN Secretary-General's
Special Adviser Alvaro de Soto, within the framework of the proximity talks,
Clerides said that on Monday or Tuesday they will discuss whether face-to-
face negotiations will take place.
