Nicosia, Jan 16 (CNA) -- "The European Union is pressing for the
designation of protected areas in Cyprus with minimum delay", Commissioner
on the Environment and member of the European Parliament Margot Wallstrom
stressed in a letter to the Greenpeace Mediterranean office in Cyprus.
According to a press release issued by the environmental organisation
Greenpeace, Wallstrom referred to the proposed list of sites being drawn up
to be nominated as Special Areas of Conservation.
Greenpeace published the letter demanding that the Cyprus government
immediately push for the Akamas peninsula to be included in the list of
sites to be protected.

London, Jan 16 (CNA) -- British Conservative Euro MP Theresa Villiers, said
she would like to see more thought going into how the European Union (EU)
can actually solve the Cyprus problem, and that the protocol on the Cyprus
issue should be raised within the European Parliament.
She also said the Cyprus problem is a EU problem and that she will be
directing her efforts towards this.
