Nicosia, Dec 18 (CNA) -- The UN Secretary-General's Spokesman Fred Eckhard
yesterday said an addendum to a report on the UN Peacekeeping Force in
Cyprus (UNFICYP) does not signify a change in UN policy but outlines the
positions of the sides involved.
At the same time UN Under-secretary for peace-keeping Bernarnd Miyet
told Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides that the organisation
adheres to its resolutions and assured the UN will make no move that may in
any way constitute recognition of the illegal regime in the areas of Cyprus
occupied by Turkey since 1974.

[02] Cyprus government - UN - Clarifications
Nicosia, Dec 18 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government appears satisfied with
clarifications given by the UN on an addendum to a report on the UN
Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), used by the Turkish Foreign
Ministry to support that the organisation is moving towards recognition of
the illegal regime in the Turkish occupied areas of the island.
Invited today by CNA to comment on statements on the issue by the UN
Secretary-General's Spokesman, Cyprus Government Spokesman Michalis
Papapetrou described them as "a move that clarify the situation".

[03] Cyprus - Christmas tree - Missing persons
Nicosia, Dec 18 (CNA) -- A christmas tree with 1617 yellow ribbons
dedicated to the Greek-Cypriots and Greeks missing since the 1974 Turkish
invasion of Cyprus stands at the Ledra Palace checkpoint in Nicosia as from
today, symbolising the hope that their fate will be established.
Relatives of the missing persons, members of the Cyprus Anti-
occupation Movement and refugee associations as well as students tied the
yellow ribbons on the tree with the names of the missing persons written on
them.
