[02] Spokesman - New York talks
Nicosia, Nov 24 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said
today proximity talks on the Cyprus problem would be on the substance of
the problem and the Greek Cypriot side is preparing on the four issues of
security, territory, separation of powers and property, as requested by the
UN Secretary General.
Commenting on statements by Turkish President Suleyman Demirel that an
imposed Cyprus settlement would bring Greece and Turkey on opposite sides,
Papapetrou said "the object is to find an agreed solution" which would end
the friction between the two countries.

[03] Greek Foreign Minister - Visit
Nicosia, Nov 24 (CNA) -- Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou arrives
here tomorrow on a two-day visit for meetings with the island's political
leadership, a week before UN-sponsored proximity talks start in New York
and ahead of the European Union Summit in Helsinki.
On Friday Papandreou will be received by President Glafcos Clerides
and is scheduled to meet President of the House of Representatives Spyros
Kyprianou.

[04] Papapetrou - Shroeder
Nicosia, Nov 24 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said
Cyprus does not oppose Turkey's European aspirations as long as it complies
with terms set out by the European Union, which all candidate countries are
expected to comply with.
Commenting on statements by German Chancellor Gerhard Shroeder
expressing his country's wish that Turkey becomes a candidate for EU
accession, Papapetrou said "Cyprus does not object to this but believes
Turkey cannot be the exception".

[05] Finance Minister - Tax - Stock Exchange
Nicosia, Nov 24 (CNA) -- The government will table a bill tomorrow to the
House of Representatives providing for one per cent tax on transactions at
the Stock Exchange, to be paid by the person selling shares, Finance
Minister Takis Klerides said after today's cabinet meeting.
He said the bill, approved by the cabinet today, is set to bring in
some 50-55 million Cyprus pounds annually, if the average daily volume of
transactions at the Stock Exchange is around 20 million. (One Cyprus pounds
is about two US dollars).
