    [01] Joint EU-Cyprus Parliamentary Committee - Meeting

    Nicosia, Nov 19 (CNA) -- Cypriot officials have stressed that Cyprus' accession to the European Union (EU) is a separate issue from the problem created by the Turkish occupation of the island's northern third.

    Addressing the deliberations of the 16th session of the EU-Cyprus Joint Parliamentary Committee in Strasbourg both its co-chairman Tassos Papadopoulos and Acting Foreign Minister, Finance Minister Takis Klerides emphasised that accession offers new conditions of stability and security for both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.

    [02] European youth clubs - Cyprus meeting

    Nicosia, Nov 19 (CNA) -- The annual conference of the European Confederation of Youth Clubs Organisations (ECYC) began here today with the participation of 36 representatives from 18 European countries.

    Participants will exchange views and submit proposals on the methods of organising youth centres and their role in the 21st century.

    Constantinople (Istanbul), Nov 19 (CNA) -- Issues of substance were raised during Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides' meeting here today with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on the sidelines of the summit of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

    Cyprus Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou told the press after the 20-minute meeting that Annan's intention to convene proximity talks on Cyprus was confirmed while "some technical issues" regarding the talks were clarified.

    [04] Clerides - OSCE speech - Cyprus problem

    Constantinople (Istanbul), Nov 19 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides said a solution to the Cyprus problem is urgently needed to benefit all the inhabitants of the island.

    Clerides made this statement while addressing the OSCE summit which ended today, stressing that a solution will heal the wounds of the past and will remove suspicion and the sense of insecurity felt by the two communities.

    Constantinople (Istanbul), Nov 19 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides expressed to his Turkish counterpart Suleyman Demirel, condolences for the devastating earthquake which struck the country.

    Addressing the OSCE summit, President Clerides further urged the need for the organisation to continue to safeguard the principle of respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states.
