    [01] International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea - Interview

    Nicosia, Sep 19 (CNA) -- The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) acts as a peace mechanism to ensure resolution of disputes about the law of the sea and Cyprus can prove to be of valuable assistance with its great maritime experience.

    ITLOS President, Thomas A. Mensah, told CNA during a short visit to the island at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the Hamburg-based court depends on the support from all governments, "and Cyprus is one of the key countries."

    New York, Sep 19 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou described as very significant the contacts President Glafcos Clerides and Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides will have at the UN headquarters this week, bearing in mind current developments in the Cyprus question.

    Papapetrou stressed that during these contacts, the government will emphasise that the international community should put pressure on Turkey so that Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash will come forward to negotiations for a final settlement of the issue. CNA/EC/MM/1999

    [03] Enthronement - Archbishop Demetrios of America

    New York, Sep 19 (CNA) -- In a grand ceremony at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City, before religious leaders from around the world, politicians, the First Lady of the US and hundreds of people, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios was enthroned here Saturday as the sixth Archbishop of America since the establishment of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in 1922.

    Setting goals to cultivate the orthodox faith, love, charity and care, unity and concord, Demetrios received praise from the prominent guests attending the ceremony, among whom Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides. CNA/EC/MM/1999

    [04] Deputies - Parliamentary Assembly

    Nicosia, Sep 19 (CNA) -- A four-member Parliamentary delegation will participate in the 4th part of the 1999 Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, to take place from September 20 - 24, in Strasbourg.

    Issues relating to the financial reconstruction of Southeastern Europe, following the recent crisis in Kosovo and world economy will be discussed during the Assembly.
