    Nicosia, Sep 15 (CNA) -- Tributes poured in today from everybody for Cypriot born Alternate Foreign Minister of Greece, killed late last night when his plane plunged from a high altitude as it was coming in to land, praising Yiannos Kranidiotis the man and Kranioditis the politician as "a special friend and an excellent diplomat."

    President Glafcos Clerides said his death was "a national tragedy" at a crucial time for Cyprus and pointed out that his passing away left "a void because he knew the Cyprus question very well and as a Cypriot he had a special interest in Cyprus."

    Nicosia, Sep 15 (CNA) -- Political parties here have expressed "shock and deep sorrow" for the untimely death of Greece's Alternate Foreign Minister, Cypriot born Yiannos Kranidiotis and paid tribute to his contribution to Cyprus.

    Kranidiotis and five other people, including his 23-year-old son, were killed when the aircraft they were travelling in to Romania plunged from a high altitude before landing at Bucharest airport.

    Nicosia, Sep 15 (CNA) -- Cyprus has declared a three-day mourning period with flags flying at half mast to mourn the death of Yiannos Kranidiotis, killed with another five persons in a plane which suddenly lost altitude before landing at Bucharest airport.

    Announcing the decision after a meeting with the Foreign Minister and the Government Spokesman, Acting President and House President Spyros Kyprianou said "President Clerides, the government, the House, the political leadership and the people of Cyprus feel great pain and a big loss."
