1235:CYPPRESS:01[01] President Clerides - New Zealand MinisterNicosia, Apr 28 (CNA) -- New Zealand Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Don McKinnon, today called on President Glafcos Clerides with whom he discussed bilateral relations, Commonwealth issues and the Yugoslav crisis.Describing the meeting as "useful", McKinnon told the press relations between the two countries "are always very warm" despite the fact that they are geographically distant. He said he also told the President that "our trade relations could be a lot better." The New Zealand official said he came to Cyprus from Moscow, where he had talks about events in Kosovo which he relayed to the President. "I'm very conscious that this is an issue that has significant impact in this part of the world," he added. Asked about the purpose of his visit, McKinnon said he will discuss Commonwealth issues in view of the fact that he is one of the candidates for the post of Secretary-General, as well as bilateral relations. He added that there will also be "a general exchange of views. Small countries talking together." Today McKinnon will hold official talks with Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and will call on the House of Representatives President, Spyros Kyprianou. He will also meet with the President and members of the House Foreign and European Affairs Committee.
