    [01] Armenian FM - Arrival

Larnaca, Mar 7 (CNA) -- Armenian Foreign Minister, Vartan Oskanian, arrived here today for a four-day official visit during which bilateral and regional issues will be discussed.

Oskanian expressed pleasure for visiting Cyprus, pointing out that this is his first time here, and pointed to the close relations between the two countries.

"We are two friendly nations, two friendly people so this is also part of our regular consultations," he remarked.

He also said that this would be a good opportunity to "discuss our bilateral relations and the prospect of mutual development, but also regional issues and issues of common interest between the two countries".

Welcoming his Armenian counterpart at Larnaca airport, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, also stressed the close and friendly relations between the two countries and expressed the wish for their further strengthening.

On Monday the Armenian Foreign Minister will have official talks with his Cypriot counterpart, followed by a press conference and a working luncheon.

Earlier in the day he will call on the Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church, Archbishop Chrysostomos, and meet with Nicosia Mayor, Lellos Demetriades, while he will also visit Nareg Elementary Armenian School.

On Tuesday he will be received by President, Glafcos Clerides and will then meet with Acting President of the House of Representatives, Nicos Anastasiades and the Chairman and members of the House Standing Committee on Foreign and European Affairs.

In the afternoon he will have a meeting with the President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vassilis Rologis and in the evening he will visit the Armenian Prelature.

The Armenian Foreign Minister will depart on Wednesday.

    [02] Rantzau - Arrival

Larnaca, Mar 7 (CNA) -- Germany's envoy for Cyprus, Detlev Graf zu Rantzau, arrived here today for a five-day visit during which he will meet with government officials and also visit the Turkish-occupied areas of the island.

Speaking on arrival, the German envoy stressed that "the purpose of (all those) coming here is to try to promote a solution" to the Cyprus problem, pointing out that "this situation has been maintained for a number of years".

"I have come back to Cyprus to maintain and keep open the contacts which I have had during the past two years", he said, adding that he will have meetings with President Glafcos Clerides, Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides and Chief negotiator in Cyprus' talks for accession to the European Union, George Vassiliou.

"I shall hope I go to the north and speak to persons in the north," the German envoy also said.

Rantzau refrained from commenting on Turkish allegations, in relation to the affair of Kurdish rebel leader, Abdullah Ocalan, that Cyprus supports terrorism, saying that "this is not for me to comment. This is for the Cyprus authorities".

Asked whether this issue was raised during his recent trip to Ankara, the German envoy replied:"I was in Ankara just a few days after the arrest of Mr Ocalan and of course the issue was raised," but refrained from giving any further details.

Rantzau leaves Cyprus on Thursday and will be giving a press conference on the day of his departure.
