    [01] Clerides - political leaders

    by Myria Antoniadou

New York, Sep 26 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides briefed political leaders accompanying him to New York about the meetings he held this week on the Cyprus issue.

The President updated political leaders on his second meeting with US Presidential Emissary Richard Holbrooke, his meeting with the Foreign Ministers of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council over a lunch he hosted and yesterday's with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Cyprus political leadership has decided to assess the present situation in the Cyprus problem at a meeting of the National Council, the top advisory body to the President, after he and party leaders or their representatives return to the island.

Today President Clerides and political leaders will attend a dinner organised by the Cyprus Federation of America.
