1110 CYPPRESS:01[01] Court extends remands in drugs caseNicosia, Feb 22 (CNA) -- The Larnaca District Court yesterday renewed the remand order of four persons held in connection to a serious drug case, involving the possession and importing of large quantities of cannabis from Bulgaria.A fifth person has already been arrested in Greece and a sixth person, also abroad, is expected to be arrested soon. Stelios Georgiou Kattis, 58, Antonis Antoniou, 28, Georgios Andreas Michael, 48, and Elli Panagiotou Frangou, 58, have been remanded for another eight days. Frangou's son, Demetris Frangos, considered the mastermind of the case, has been arrested in Athens and is expected to be extradited next week so the Cyprus police can question him. According to the Police, Kattis gave 130 kilos of cannabis to Demetris Frangos, who in turn sent it to Cyprus from Bulgaria, during the period between January and October 1997. Furthermore, Elli Frangou seems to have gained 21 thousand pounds from laundering the drug money. The Police stated in Court that it is in close cooperation with British, Greek and Bulgarian Interpol. CNA RG/MA/1998ENDS, CYPRUS NEWS AGENCY1135:CYPPRESS:02[02] Clerides to meet Annan if Cyprus included in his itineraryNicosia, Feb 22 (CNA) -- A meeting between President Glafcos Clerides and UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, will take place if the UN chief stops over in Cyprus, after he concludes his mission to Iraq.Annan was scheduled to make a brief stop at Larnaca airport today, on his return from Baghdad, where he was to have an hour-long meeting with President Clerides. "The meeting will take place if a stopover in Cyprus is included in the Secretary-General's itinerary", a government source told CNA today. According to international news agencies, the UN chief has extended his stay and is expected to meet Iraqi President Saddam Hussein at 0900 GMT Sunday.
