CNA MCH/1997ENDS, CYPRUS NEWS AGENCY1500:CYPPRESS:03[03] President receives outgoing ministersNicosia, Nov 5 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides accepted today the resignation of five members of his cabinet but asked them to stay on for a few more days until some pending issues are sorted out.Speaking at the Presidential Palace where the five ministers of the coalition Democratic Party (DIKO) handed in their resignations, the President said he was pleased with the cooperation he has had with them. The President also asked them to attend the press conference he will hold tomorrow to outline the work done by his government so far. The five (defence, interior, agriculture, commerce, labour) handed in their resignation following Tuesday's decision by DIKO to pull out of the coalition government in view of February's presidential elections. DIKO president Spyros Kyprianou will contest the elections. "New cabinet members will be appointed for only three months and they will not necessarily come from the ranks of the ruling Democratic Rally party (DISI)," the President said. He said the cabinet, in its present composition, will meet Friday and if necessary again on Monday to sort out pending issues. New cabinet members are expected to be appointed next week. Asked if he is disappointed by DIKO's decision to quit its coalition with DISI, the President replied "I respect party decisions whether I agree with them or not."
