    [01] Hijacked plane refueled

Larnaca, Aug 27 (CNA) -- A Sudan Airways hijacked plane, landed here tonight and taxied in a special area on the western side of Larnaca International Airport amid strict security measures.

Reports have suggested that the plane may refuel and then take off for an unknown destination.

Extra police were deployed and a unit from the police anti-terrorist squad was on its way to the airport, which operates normally.

The plane, an airbus A-310 with 186 passengers and 13 crew members, was flying from the Sudanese capital Khartoum to the Jordanian capital Amman when it was hijacked.

Police are keeping the press well away from the aircraft and there are conflicting reports about the number of hijackers or their demands.

Authorities here are not disclosing any details about the hijacking.

[02] Hijacker of Sudanese plane said to be armed - demands fuel

Larnaca, Aug 27 (CNA) -- A person, aboard a hijacked Sudan Airways aircarft which landed here more than an hour ago, is said to be armed with a hand-grenade and dynamite, Larnaca airport sources said.

The sources said that he is demanding fuel for the Airbus 310 to fly to London.

Contact between the said hijacker and the Cypriot authorities continue to try and bring this to a conclusion.

Flights into and out of Larnaca Airport are operating normally.

The plane with 186 passengers and 13 crew members was hijacked about 25 minutes after take-off from from Khartoum, Sudan, for Amman, Jordan.

The plane was originally refused permission to land here but then permission was granted as the aircraft was running out of fuel.

    [03] Hijacked plane refueled

Larnaca, Aug 27 (CNA) -- A hijacked Sudan Airways aircraft is being refueled here and Cypriot authorities expect it to take off afterwards, police spokesman Glafcos Xenos told CNA.

''All indications are that there is more than one hijacker on board the Airbus 310,'' he said.

Earlier the person on board the aircraft, who talked to the authorities, had threatened to blow up the plane unless it was refueled. The man spoke in English, police spokesman said.

''We are making every effort to end this peacefully and we have tried to get women and children off the aircraft,'' Xenos said.

The hijacked plane landed at Larnaca Airport shortly after 2300 local time (2000 GMT). It was on a flight from Khartoum, Sudan, to Amman, Jordan.
