0900:CYPPRESS:01[01] US top official to discuss Cyprus in Ankara-AthensWashington, Jul 2 (CNA) -- US Undersecretary of State Peter Tarnoff will travel to Turkey and Greece for talks on the Cyprus problem, State Department spokesman Nicholas Burns has said.''The main subject of Tarnoff's discussion with Turkish President Suleyman Demirel and possibly new Premier Necmettin Erbakan is to review the Cyprus question,'' Burns told CNA. From Ankara, Tarnoff will go to Athens where he will have discussions with the Greek government on Cyprus, he said and explained that events in the past few days in Greece and Turkey ''point towards a political stability which creates the environment for serious discussions.'' ''Tarnoff's visit, planned weeks ago, to Greece and Turkey takes place in a very good time,'' Burns said. Greco-Turkish relations and specifically the dispute in the Aegean will also be on the agenda of Tarnoff's talks in the two capitals, Burns said. Asked to comment on the emerging Turkish government, Burns said ''the US have the intention to work closely with it but at the same time the US Administration will not accept any attempt to change Turkey's secularism and friendly relations with the West and Europe.'' CNA DA/MM/GP/1996ENDS, CYPRUS NEWS AGENCY1445:CYPPRESS:02[02] Greek Cypriot enclaved not forgotten, says BritainNicosia, Jul 2 (CNA) -- Britain, in close cooperation with the UN, will work harder to improve the plight of some 500 Greek Cypriot enclaved living in the Turkish-occupied northern part of Cyprus, according to Nicos Falas, President of the Coordinating Committee of Karpasia.Speaking after a meeting of a Karpasia delegation with Britain's High Commissioner David Madden, Falas said Madden reassured him that the British government ''will intensify its efforts to achieve substantive improvement in the living conditions of the enclaved and work towards the Third Vienna agreement.'' The agreement, signed in August 1975 by the Greek and Turkish Cypriot sides, provides for normal living conditions, including the right to education and religion, for Greek Cypriots living in the Turkish-occupied areas, who numbered 20.000 in the aftermath of the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Some 200.000 Greek Cypriots have been forcibly uprooted from their homes and properties by the Turkish troops, which invaded and occupied 37 per cent the island's territory in 1974. Falas, accompanied by the leaders of other committees for the enclaved, asked for Madden's help to ensure that the Turkish occupation regime allows Greek Cypriot pilgrims to attend a church service at the occupied monastery of Saint Andreas, on 15 August, an important religious date in the Greek Orthodox calendar. According to Falas, Madden described the enclaved as ''brave'' people and said the international community has not forgotten them. A statement, issued by Falas' committee today, alleged that young Turkish men threw stones against the house of a Greek Cypriot lady, Andriana Paphitis, in occupied Rizokarpasso village in an apparent effort to frighten people. According to the statement, Turkish ''forestry officials'' fined two 34-year-old Greek Cypriot farmers from the same village for not grazing their animals in designated pastures.
