[01] GRANIC TO VISIT YUGOSLAVIACroatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic will pay a one-day, working visit to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Wednesday, the Federal Foreign Ministry said.Granic will visit Yugoslavia at the invitation of Federal Foreign Minister Milan Milutinovic, the statement said. Yugoslav Daily Survey, 1997-02-18 ; Belgrade, 1997-02-17[02] PRODUCTION IN JANUARY UP BY 2.9 PERCENTIndustrial production in Yugoslavia was in January 2.9 percent up on the same period last year, a press conference at the Federal Statistics Bureau (SZS) was told Monday.The biggest increase was recorded in the sphere of metallurgy - 5.7 percent. Production rises were also noted in the metal processing and electro industries (2.1 percent), chemical and paper industries (8 percent) and the production of leather, textiles and rubber (0.1 percent). A drop was recorded in the power industry (1.4 percent), non-metals and construction materials (9.2 percent), lumber industry (2.5 percent), food and tobacco industries (5.3 percent) and other branches (4.3 percent). With regard to republics, in Montenegro production in January 1997 was 22 percent up on the same period last year, and 1.4 percent in Serbia, SZS Assistant Director Mirjana Rankovic said. Yugoslav Daily Survey, 1997-02-18 ; Tanjug, 1997-02-17[03] HUMAN RIGHTS STANDARDS HARMONIZED WITH THE WORLDSerbia is applying the highest world standards in the field of human rights and national minorities, said Monday Serbian Minister for Human Rights and National Minority Rights Ivan Sedlak.These standards have been been put into practice for the greatest part, Sedlak. However, he warned that these successes cannot be reason for complacency, because, he said, 'our society is in a process of transition, and that is influencing also this field, since a poor material basis gives rise to different problems.' Asked how he assessed relations between nationalities in Subotica, in view of one-national power dominance in the past, Sedlak said that he would be working for the interests of all citizens in Subotica rather than to place in the forefront the interests of one group of the population. 'All those who wish this city well must find a minimum of common interests realized in the Republic of Serbia, which is indispensable for the prosperity of the city and of the Republic,' he said. Efforts to separate Subotica from Serbia as an interest sphere runs contrary to the interests of the city and of the state, Sedlak said, and added that Subotica had always been a city of tolerance and mutual understanding of over twenty nationalities living in it. Yugoslav Daily Survey, 1997-02-18 ; Tanjug, 1997-02-17[04] MONTENEGRIN PRIME MINISTER MEETS WITH ITALIAN OFFICIALSMontenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met on monday with the head of northern Italy's region of Veneto, Giancarlo Valano.The officials showed interest in boosting ties between Montenegro and Veneto, especially in the production, distribution and rationalization of power, water supply, public transportation and utility. The two sides initialled an agreement to that effect. It is expected to be signed by officials from Montenegro and the Italian Association of Public Local Services in Padua on Tuesday, where Djukanovic and his hosts have been invited to attend a presentation on Montenegro's economic potential.
