  • [01] ITALY TO OPEN GENERAL CONSULATE IN MONTENEGRO

R o m e, Sept. 16 (Tanjug) - Italy will open a General Consulate in Montenegro, the Italian Foreign Ministry said on Monday adding that the Consulate would be located in the Adriatic port of Bar, Southern Montenegro.

The decision is in keeping with the recent talks between Italian Foreign Minister Lamberto Dini and his Yugoslav Counterpart Milan Milutinovic and Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, the Italian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

This act fulfils the demands of the business community of Montenegro and Italy's Province of Puglio for the opening of a General Consulate in Montenegro due to the negative effects on the two countries' trade and tourism caused after Italy decided to introduce visas for Yugoslav citizens on May 31, 1996.

The citizens of Yugoslavia from Montenegro have until now been forced to travel to Belgrade to obtain Italian visas.

Dini confirmed that, until the necessary procedure for opening a General Consulate in Bar is completed, it is possible that a representative of the Italian Embassy in Belgrade will travel to Montenegro to facilitate the visa issuing.

The Italian Foreign Ministry also said that another decision is to reduce the number of documents necessary for obtaining an Italian visa, but no details about this were given.

[02] CROATIAN OFFICIAL: NORMALIZATION WITH YUGOSLAVIA

Z a g r e b, Sept. 16 (Tanjug) - A Croatian official said Monday that the Normalization Accord with the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia marked a turning point and had the character of a Peace Declaration, although war had never been declared between them.

Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Simonovic was speaking in the Parliament Upper House, in a debate on ratification of the Croatian-Yugoslav Normalization Accord, signed in late August.

The Croatian Government submitted the Accord for ratification by both Houses in a Summary Procedure.

According to Simonovic, the Accord has been welcomed in the world and upheld by the Big Powers and the neighbouring countries.

[03] MILOSEVIC AND IZETBEGOVIC TO MEET IN PARIS

P a r i s, Sept. 16 (Tanjug) - The French Foreign Ministry has announced that Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic and Bosnian Muslim leader Alija Izetbegovic will meet in Paris.

France sees the Paris meeting as a new contribution to the Peace Process in Bosnia and to strengthening stability in the Balkans.

[04] BOSNIAN ELECTION RESULTS EXPECTED ON TUESDAY

S a r a j e v o, Sept. 16 (Tanjug) - The candidates of the three national parties - Muslim Alija Izetbegovic, Serb Momcilo Krajisnik and Croat Kresimir Zubak - are strongly in the lead in Bosnia's Presidential elections, according to returns from 20 of 160 Municipalities.

Presidential election results will be known on Tuesday, Robert Frowick, Chief of the Bosnian Mission of the OSCE, said late on Monday.

Frowick told reporters that the OSCE had hoped it would be able to publish the results late on Monday, but that this was clearly not possible because returns were coming in slower than expected.

He said he agreed with the Head of the International Observer Team, Ed Van Thijn, that there had been no major irregularities during the elections. Frowick said that he had read the final report by the Head of the International Observer Team about the course of the elections and that their views were very similar.
