NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

SARAJEVO - The president in Presidency of B&H from Republika Srpska /RS/ Momcilo Krajisnik did not reach and an agreement about the design of currency with High international Representative Carlos Westendorp and governor of the Central Bank of B&H Peter Nicol, because Westendorp tried to impose the solution which is not in accordance with the Law. "We adopted the Law on Central Bank, which clearly anticipate two designs, and now they are trying to impose one. We presented our objections and we expect the answer, but according what we have learned and saw, there is desire to come to an solution which is fully opposed to the interests of our people and what until now was agreed at all levels" - said Mr. Krajisnik.

BIJELJINA - The chief of General Staff of Army of Republika Srpska /VRS/ general-major Pero Colic and deputy commander of SFOR for land operations lieutenant general Hugh Pike agreed in Bijeljina on "new methods of cooperation of armed forces of RS, Federation B&H and multi-national units". As announced in General Staff of VRS, at the meeting, along with conclusion that the cooperation between Serbian and international military forces in implementation of Dayton Agreement very successful, was concluded that there impend complex tasks on further strengthening the confidence between entities and stabilisation of peace in these regions.

BELGRADE - The vice-president of Serbian Radical Party /SRS/ Tomislav Nikolic assessed in Belgrade that in RS, "obviously, the swords are being crossed about two possible options - for-Serbian and for-Bosnian". "Without Serbian parties in RS cannot be solved no one problem. And no possibility to allow Moslems to decide about RS. They must first live there and then have a right to discuss about Serbian problems" - explained Nikolic.

SARAJEVO - The U.S. diplomat Robert Barry will replace Robert Frowick at the post of the chief of OSCE Mission in B&H - reports AFP calling upon the diplomatic sources in Sarajevo. Frowick left this position in December last year. Barry was the Ambassador of U.S. to Indonesia and Bulgaria, and his arrival to Sarajevo is expected next week.

VUKOVAR - By the solemn ceremony in Borovo Naselje was marked the expiration of mandate of UN in Srem-Baranja region. Besides the representatives of local authorities the ceremony was attended by the deputy Secretary General of UN Security Council Bernard Mieou, special U.S. envoy Robert Gelbard, representatives of Croatian Government and diplomats accredited to Zagreb.

BOROVO NASELJE - The special U.S. envoy for former Yugoslavia Robert Gelbard called Croatia to respect human rights and support return of refgees also after the expiring of UN mandate in Srem-Baranja region - reports AFP. Reading the message of U.S. president Bill Clinton, at the ceremony on the occasion of reintegration of this region in Croatia, Gelbard confirmed that U.S. and international community furthermore will be present in the region which is being returned under Croatian administration.

VIENNA - The leader of the OSCE mission in Croatia Tim Guldiman criticised in Vienna the stance of Croatian authorities towards Serbs in Srem-Baranja region, accusing them that they did not fulfil internationally agreed obligations nor implement them in practice, reports DPA. He stated that this primarily relates to the principle of equality of citizens before the court, slow return of refugees and bad economic situation in Srem- Baranja region.

CETINJE - The previous president of Government of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic by swearing an solemn oath in Cetinje, at the extraordinary session of Montenegrin Assembly, took over the function of the president of Republic from the former president Momir Bulatovic and his mandate will last next five years. In the solemn oath Djukanovic committed himself to "perform the duty of the president of Montenegro honestly, fair, because the welfare and progress of Montenegro, FR Yugoslavia and all citizens".

SARAJEVO - The president in Presidency of B&H from RS Momcilo Krajisnik appealed on new and former presidents of Montenegro /CG/ Milo Djukanovic and Momir Bulatovic to find a compromise and overcome the rift, warning that events in Montenegro could provoke the civil war and suffering of people. "I can not arbitrate in the events there. I oppose to theft of ballots and forfeiting, but I am also against violence. I wish that the crisis would be overcome as soon as possible and that at our people prevail reason, because in such conflicts there is no winner - all are losers" - said Krajisnik in Pale.
